In 2013 we added a biomass oven to our boiler. This helped us reduce fossil fuel consumption by up to 99%, equivalent to the 350,000gls saving of fuel that we stop consuming annually. This boiler uses mainly coconut jicara or coconut shell (which occurs naturally in the environment) and wooden pallets that we can no longer reuse internally. Likewise, the ashes generated by this boiler contain high levels of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, making it an ideal mixture to fertilize soils for cultivation. The ashes are donated to the Horticulture’s department of the National Botanical Garden.
